Did you know that the FDA considers chocolate acceptable for
public consumption as long as there are less than 60 microscopic
insect fragments per 100 grams (approx. one candy bar).

[Many Fun_People (especially New Yorkers) will be familiar with the drink known
as an "egg cream." The prototypical chocolate egg cream is made with soda
water, milk, and Foster's U-Bet syrup (I'm no longer sure of the spelling).
Several years ago Consumer Reports printed a survey of chocolate syrups. In
that survey, U-Bet wasn't listed, but a little sidebar said something to this
effect: "Observant readers may notice the omission of Foster's U-Bet syrup from
our ratings, but since it is made without any chocolate, we didn't consider
U-Bet to be a chocolate syrup. But after seeing the figures on amount of
insect matter in it, we don't even consider it to be a food!" I wish I'd kept
that issue... -psl]
