[ Many net.souls debated a new term to replace our beloved Spam... ]

A sampling from the Usenet:

>"Cantered". As in "that message has cantered itself into 5,000
>newsgroups..."

Actually, to me `Siegel' sounds like a unit.
One could, for example, define as a unit of spammage:

1 Siegel (Sg) = spam in 1000 newsgroups.

Thus, the 50 group threshold for spam detection could be
  expressed as 50 mSg.

WHISTLE-BLOWING SOFTWARE
Now there's a software program that literally blows the whistle when it
senses an employee playing a computer game on company time. GameCop can
be programmed to recognize more than 100 games. (Info Week 30JAN95 - EDU)

COMPUTERIZED GARBAGE CAN AS BIG BROTHER
The Associated Press reports that the town of Petersburg, Alaska is in-
stituting a computerized garbage system, where each can contains a small
computer that measures the volume of waste. The truck then downloads that
information into another computer, and the household is charged only for
the amount of garbage it generates. (Inovation_19DEC94)

ENCRYPTION BLUES CONTINUES
The secret RC4 algorithm used for encryption by RSA Data Security was
posted on the Internet. Once public, it was studied by other programmers,
who designed improvements, making it faster and more efficient. (Netsurf)

A NEW TOY TO FEAR
Soon Nintendo will be selling "Virtual Boy". A 32-bit system with
a two-eyed display using 256 shades ranging from red to black. Can
you picture rows and rows of boys leaning forward into their system's
head sockets, twitching and moaning as they feed like some nightmarish
brood of piglets? [ It gives even me the creeps ]

CANCELBOT DERAILS ONLINE PROMO
Messages promoting "Netchat," a new book by Michael Wolff, have been
unceremoniously wiped out by someone calling him/herself "Cancelmoose."
The vigilante, who used a program called a cancelbot, worked through a
computer in Finland that enables a mail sender to remain anonymous, and
claims to have performed similar services more than a dozen times in the
 past. (WSJ 12/20/94 B7-EDU)

Also a certain religious group has been cancelling their critic's
postings, and even tried to globally "rmgroup" at all net sites.
