Subject: Exon v. Leahy Moved to Tomorrow (6/14)

From: editor@eff.org

Update, 5pm ET, June 13 95:

According to staffers of Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), via W. Curtiss Priest of
CAUSE, wrangling over the numerous amendments to Senate telecom reform
bill S.652 has dragged on long enough to put the Leahy bill v. Exon
legislation debate off until tomorrow. This is great - it gives us all
several more working hours to contact our Senators, and Gore.

Both Mass. Senators (Kerry and Kennedy) indicate opposition to Exon,
support for Leahy. This is NOT yet true of all the other states, so
please get those calls rolling in before it's too late, if you care
about free speech.

As for the passage or failure of whatever final form the telecom bill as
a whole takes, it looks like the vote will happen Thursday night, and
Kerry's aide estimates 70 Senators are for the bill's passage - a
definite majority. Anyone holding off on their activism because they
expect the bill to be defeated whether or not it contains Exon's
net.censorship legislation may wish to reconsider.
