Subject: American Folklife Center under attack

From: Art Menius <70632.3264@compuserve.com>

On Monday afternoon I got a call from Karen Foersten of Congressional
Quarterly. She informed me that a new bill has been introduced to eliminate
the American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress.

Then I turned to the Congressional Gopher to find out what I could, but
little info was there as of Friday's update. On May 16th Rep. William M.
Thomas (R-CA) introduced H.R. 3491, "A Bill To Repeal The American Folklife
Preservation Act." It was referred that day to the House Committee on
Oversight. No committee action is scheduled. The text of the bill is not
yet avialable.
