Dear Folks:

Happy New Year to all; I just talked to Matt Glaser, with whom many of
you may be familiar. He just learned he has one of the more virulent and
ugly forms of skin cancer, and would appreciate any good wishes or
prayers anyone may care to direct his way. It's still early in the course
of this thing and we don't know really what's going to happen. Anybody
wishing to send a note to him could email to his address:
mglaser@berklee.edu
Sorry to have been the bearer of bad news; there seems to have been a
rash of this kind of thing lately. For those of you that don't know Matt,
he's been a champion and great player teacher of many fiddle styles
including old-timey, bluegrass, and jazz, and he has transformed the
string department at the Berklee school into the best option in the world
for fiddle players wanting to study improvisation. Many of you may be
familiar with his books, and so forth. He's kind of a nutty hero to me
and, I think, to many others as well. There's been quite a bit of
publicity recently about prayer being inexplicably effective independent
of belief system or even personal acquaintance, I would be bold enough to
impose on you all a request to float a good thought or two his way some
time. Thanks for your indulgence.
Darol
