I decided, let's try and build something new to replace what was lost.
Part of what I wanted was to make another hacker community with the same
virtue as the previous one, and that virtue, to me, was the freedom to
cooperate.  You have a certain way of life when you have freedom in a free
society.  In a totalitarian, non-free society, every aspect of how you
deal with people is shaped by your fear.  In proprietary society, your
dealings with other people are shaped by fear of the information police,
currently in its incarnation of the Software Publishers Association.
